We are very happy to came to inform you of a new listing at WALDO Jersey City market today one in Downtown Jersey City and the other in Journal Square at the Beacon
The one in Downtown Jersey City is at Waldo Lofts. I’ve seen plenty of Waldo Lofts homes both in pictures and in person to know that the words “cookie cutter” do not exist in that building.
Waldo Lofts is the quintessential Power House District development. The district was nicknamed WALDO after a zoning board strategy adopted in 2002. The goal was to keep the bulk of the low rise industrial buildings in the Power House art District as opposed to having them knocked down by developers. To achieve this the zoning allowed for residential and industrial usage in the same building.
Half of the apartments or work/live lofts in the WALDO district buildings had to be sold to artists at subsidized prices. The proposal wasn’t as successful as hoped and there were very few takes for the gallery spaces that became available. As a result the zoning was later deleted in 2007.
Art work by local artists is still displayed on rotation in the lobby of the Waldo Lofts building. Speaking of the building, it is in fact high quality concrete and steel construction.
